📘Full Feature Guide
This is a complete walkthrough of every feature in Presentation Wizard 98 — what it does, how to use it, and any real limitations. Most features have no issues at all; the ones that do are noted so you're not surprised by them.
🖱 The Basics The canvas — the white area in the middle is your current slide. Click any element once to select it (handles appear for resizing, a yellow circle for rotating). Click empty space to deselect. Double-click a text box to start typing inside it.

Moving & resizing — drag an element to move it. Drag a corner/edge handle to resize. Drag the yellow circle above a selected element to rotate it (hold Shift while rotating to snap to 15° increments).

Multi-select — hold Ctrl and click multiple elements, or click-drag on empty slide space to draw a selection box around several at once. With multiple selected, the Properties panel lets you nudge, align, or bulk-edit color/opacity/font size for all of them together.

Right-click menu — right-click any element for Duplicate, Copy/Paste, Lock, Set Hyperlink, layering (Front/Back), and Group/Ungroup. Right-clicking inside text also runs the spellchecker (see below).

Keyboard shortcuts — Ctrl+N/O/S New/Open/Save, Ctrl+Z/Y Undo/Redo, Ctrl+C/V Copy/Paste, Ctrl+D Duplicate Slide, Ctrl+M New Slide, Ctrl+A Select All, Ctrl+F Find & Replace, Ctrl +/- Zoom, F5 Present, Delete removes selected element(s), Arrow keys nudge (Shift+Arrow nudges 5px at a time).
📁 File Menu New — clears the canvas and starts a blank presentation. Asks for confirmation first since it can't be undone.
Open — loads a .ppt98/JSON project file from your computer.
Save / Save As — downloads your project as a .ppt98 file (really just JSON) that you can reopen later, share, or hand in. Save As lets you rename it first.
Export as PNG — renders every slide as a separate PNG image and downloads them one by one. Issue: needs an internet connection the first time (loads the html2canvas library from a CDN), and if a slide has live widgets (clock, weather, stock ticker), they'll export as a static snapshot of whatever they showed at that moment, not as live elements.
Export as PDF — same idea as PNG export but combines every slide into one PDF, sized to match your slide's aspect ratio. Same CDN/widget caveats as PNG export.
Print — renders each slide as an image and opens the browser's print dialog. Issue: this opens a popup window, so a pop-up blocker can stop it — allow pop-ups for the page if nothing happens.
Exit — closes the app in this tab (just clears the page).
✏️ Edit Menu Undo/Redo (up to 80 steps back), Copy/Paste (for whichever element(s) are selected — text editing must be finished first, i.e. click outside a text box before copying it), Delete, Duplicate Slide, Select All (selects every element on the current slide), and Find & Replace (searches text box content on the current slide only — it doesn't search across every slide at once).
🪟 View Menu & Panels Slide Navigator — the thumbnail sidebar on the left. Drag thumbnails to reorder slides. Collapse it with the ◀ arrow at its edge for more canvas space.
Properties Panel — shows editable settings (font, color, position, size, effects, animation) for whatever's currently selected. Opens automatically when you select something.
Speaker Notes — a small notes box under the canvas, per-slide, for things to say while presenting. These show up in the teleprompter (below).
Ruler — toggles pixel rulers along the top/left of the canvas.
Zoom In / Out / Reset — changes your editing zoom level only; it doesn't affect the actual slide size or the exported file.
Show/Hide Grid & Toggle Grid Snap — the grid is just a visual guide; Snap (separate toggle, also a toolbar button) makes dragged/resized elements snap to a 5% grid.
📜 View History — see the dedicated Edit History section further down — it's a big enough feature to get its own writeup.
🤝 Collaborate Live editing — Collaborate synchronizes element movement, resizing, rotation, and text editing continuously while you work.
Blur limitation — Image blur is disabled while collaborating. Blur is intentionally not synchronized between collaborators; leave the collaboration session to use image blur normally.
Media limits — While collaborating, images are capped in resolution and file size and videos are re-encoded to a smaller resolution, so big media doesn't slow the room down. Change this under View → Media Limits.
Tip — Changes are sent continuously during active editing, so other collaborators can see movement and typing without waiting for you to stop.
🧰 Research & Design Tool Windows These all open as floating, draggable, resizable mini-windows (drag the titlebar to move, drag an edge to resize, _ to minimize, ✕ to close) — you can have several open at once.

🔍 Images & Stock Photos — gives you search links to Google Images, Pexels, Pixabay, Unsplash, Freepik, etc. Issue: it can't show image results directly inside the app — those sites block being embedded, so this opens a new tab for you to search, then you download the image and drag it in or use Insert → Image.
📖 Wikipedia — a real, searchable, embedded Wikipedia page (pick a language from the dropdown) for quick research while you work.
🎨 Color Picker — swatches, a native OS color picker, gradient presets, and a hex input with a copy button. Click any swatch/hex to copy it, then paste into any color field in Properties.
🌐 Quick Links — a curated list of search engines, free image sites, design tools (Canva, Coolors, Google Fonts, Remove.bg), and AI tools — just bookmarked shortcuts, all open in a new tab.
🎨 Coolors Palette — browse randomly generated 5-color palettes; click any swatch to copy its hex code. Hit "New Random Palettes" for more.
🌈 Gradient Builder — build linear, radial or conic gradients (optionally repeating) with up to 12 color stops: click the stop bar to add one, drag to move, double-click to remove, and set each stop's color, position and opacity. Pick an angle or center point, start from a preset (including dark ones), or paste any CSS gradient to edit it. Apply it to the current slide, every slide, or a selected text box / shape, or copy the CSS.
⚖️ Contrast Checker — enter a text color and background color to get the WCAG contrast ratio and pass/fail for AA/AAA accessibility standards. Good for making sure text is actually readable.
📐 Aspect Ratio Editor — calculates ratios from any width/height, has quick presets (16:9, 4:3, 1:1, etc.), and can apply a custom aspect ratio directly to your slide.
🔤 Font Tester — type any Google Font name to preview it before committing, then apply it straight to a selected text box. Issue: needs the exact Google Fonts name and an internet connection to fetch it.
📚 Dictionary — look up definitions/synonyms via an online dictionary API, with an embedded Wiktionary browser as backup. Issue: the lookup API is occasionally slow or rate-limited; if it fails, there's a direct link to Merriam-Webster as a fallback.
➕ Insert Menu New Slide — adds a blank slide after the current one.
Text Box — adds an editable text box; double-click to type, use the toolbar or Properties panel for font/size/color/alignment/stroke/shadow/reflection.
Image... — inserts an image from your computer. Large images are automatically downscaled to a reasonable size to keep the file from ballooning.
Paste Image from Clipboard — inserts whatever image is currently on your system clipboard (e.g. from a screenshot).
Bullet List / Numbered List — inserts a starter list, or converts an already-selected text box into one.
List Style... — pick from several numbering formats (1./a./i., A./a./i., I./A./1., etc.) for a more formal outline look.
🅰 Word Art — big stylized text presets (neon, chrome, fire, comic-book, etc.) — type your text, pick a style, and it's inserted as a shaped text block.
🧱 Building Blocks Library — ready-made multi-element layouts (title slides, agendas, quote blocks, stat dashboards, SWOT matrices, comparison tables, team cards, timelines, etc.) that insert as a group you can then customize.
Shape... — over 30 shapes (rectangles, arrows, stars, speech bubbles, hearts, etc.) with adjustable fill color or an image fill.
Table... — pick a row/column count and it inserts an editable HTML table.
😀 Emoji Picker — browse by category or search, click to insert into a selected text box (or it copies to your clipboard if no text box is selected).
▦ QR Code Generator — type a URL or text, preview the QR code, then insert it as an image or download it. Issue: generates the code via an external API, so it needs internet access.
📊 Diagram / Chart — write Mermaid syntax (flowcharts, sequence diagrams, class diagrams, pie charts, Gantt charts, mind maps — starter templates provided per type) and insert the rendered diagram as an image. Issue: loads the Mermaid library from a CDN the first time it's used, so needs internet then.
🖌️ Drawing Canvas — a small paint tool (pen, soft brush, line, rectangle, ellipse, eraser, fill toggle, adjustable size/color) — draw something and insert it as an image.
🎬 Video File / 🔊 Audio / Music — inserts a video or audio player from a file on your computer. These are stored in the browser's IndexedDB rather than directly in the save file, which keeps the .ppt98 file smaller.
Live Clock / Date, Countdown Timer, Weather Widget, Stock/Data Ticker, Stopwatch — "live" widgets that update in real time both while editing and while presenting. Issue: Weather and Stock widgets pull live data from external APIs — if the API is down, blocked, or the browser is offline, they'll show "N/A" instead of failing silently, so that's expected fallback behavior, not a bug.
Insert Slide Number — adds a small "current / total" page-number text box, and keeps it updated automatically as you add/remove slides.
Insert References Block — dumps your saved citations onto the slide as a formatted list (see Citations below).
Apply Layout... — swaps the current slide's content for one of several preset structures (Title Slide, Title + Content, Two Columns, Image + Text, Big Image, Blank).
🎨 Format Menu Apply Theme... — over 30 color themes; check "Apply to all slides" to theme the whole deck at once instead of just the current slide.
Background... — solid color, a two-color gradient, or a custom background image for the current slide.
Aspect Ratio 4:3 / 16:9 — quick-switches the current slide's shape (also available as toolbar buttons, and as a custom-ratio option in the Aspect Ratio Editor tool).
Bring to Front / Send to Back — changes stacking order for the selected element.
Apply Theme to All Slides — re-applies whichever theme you most recently picked to every slide in the deck.
Align Elements... — with 2+ elements selected, align them left/right/top/bottom/center, or evenly distribute the spacing between them.
▶ Slide Show / Presenting From Beginning / From Current Slide — starts fullscreen presentation mode. Use arrow keys, spacebar, or click to advance; Home/End jump to first/last slide; Esc exits.
+ Teleprompter — same as From Beginning, but also opens a separate popup window scrolling your speaker notes at an adjustable speed — handy on a second monitor. Issue: this is a popup window, so a pop-up blocker can prevent it from opening.
Slide Transitions... — 17 transition styles (fade, slides, pushes, zooms, curtain, dissolve, etc.) with adjustable duration, per-slide or applied to all.
Auto-Advance Timing... — set a slide to move on automatically after N seconds (0 = manual only), per-slide or for the whole deck.
Laser Pointer (L) — toggles a red dot that follows your mouse during presentation mode, for pointing things out without an actual laser pointer.
Note: Fullscreen mode depends on your browser supporting the Fullscreen API — most do, but some in-app/embedded browsers (or strict privacy browsers) may not allow it, in which case presenting still works, just not fullscreen.
🎬 Animations The Animation Panel (toggle from the Animations menu, or set individual effects from an element's Properties panel) lets you choose an entrance effect (Fade, Slide, Zoom, Bounce, Typewriter, Spin, Flip, Shake) per element, with a delay and duration, and a step number — elements with the same step number animate together, and steps play in order as you click/advance during a presentation. "Auto Stagger Delays" spaces out existing animations automatically. "Preview All" plays every animation on the current slide right in the editor so you can check the timing without starting a full presentation.
❞ Citations The Citation Manager lets you save sources either by filling in author/year/title/etc. fields (auto-formatted in APA, MLA, Chicago, or Harvard style) or by pasting an already-formatted citation from somewhere like MyBib. From there you can insert an in-text citation like (Smith, 2023) at your cursor in a selected text box, or dump the whole list as a formatted References block onto a slide. "Open MyBib" just opens mybib.com in a new tab as a convenience for generating citations to paste back in.
🔤 Spellcheck Right-click on a word inside a text box to get spelling suggestions (up to 3), pulled from an English dictionary loaded once in the background. Click a suggestion to replace the word. Issue: only checks English, only loads once you're online (it fetches the dictionary from a CDN the first time), and very long "words" (over 18 characters — usually a sign something isn't really a single word, like a URL) are skipped for performance reasons.
🌐 Language The EN/HU dropdown in the top-right of the toolbar switches the app's own interface labels between English and Hungarian. It only changes the app's menus/buttons/labels — it doesn't translate the content of your slides.
💾 Autosave Your work is automatically saved to this browser's local storage every ~10 seconds and after most edits — you'll see a small "✓ Saved" flash in the bottom-right status bar. This means closing the tab and reopening it later restores where you left off, without needing to manually Save first. Issue: autosave lives in this specific browser — clearing site data, using a different browser/computer, or private/incognito mode won't have it. Use File → Save regularly if you need a real backup, since that produces an actual file on disk.
📜 Edit History This is off by default — nothing is tracked until you turn it on. Open View → 📜 View History and click ⏻ Enable/Disable Tracking to start.

Once enabled: it records a permanent document created timestamp (that never moves backward, even if you disable/re-enable later), logs every editing session (when you worked and for how long), and automatically saves a full checkpoint roughly every 5 minutes of active editing (or every 25 edits, whichever comes first) — capped at the most recent 30 checkpoints so it can't grow forever.

For any checkpoint you can: 👁 Changes — see exactly what text/elements were added, removed, or edited since the previous checkpoint, without touching your current work. Restore — roll back to a checkpoint that still exists in this presentation's local editing cache (your current state is pushed onto Undo first). Checkpoints that came from a .ppt98 file loaded from disk are deliberately view only; they still have their full Changes view, but they do not get a Restore button. Del — remove a local checkpoint you don't need.

History travels with your saved file. Every time you Save/Save As, the history record — creation date, sessions, activity, participants, and checkpoint comparison data — is embedded directly into the .ppt98 file. Open that file later and the archived history remains visible. The archived checkpoints are view-only because their full restorable slide data is intentionally not embedded in the file. While you continue editing the newly loaded presentation, new local-cache checkpoints can be restored normally; the older checkpoints that came from the file remain view-only.

Use the 📋 Copy Summary button for a quick plain-text timeline you can paste anywhere, or 💾 Export History File for a standalone JSON record as a separate backup.
🧭 If Something Isn't Working Most tools here that talk to the internet (image search links, Wikipedia, dictionary lookup, QR codes, diagrams, font previews, weather/stock widgets) need an active connection — if one of them isn't responding, check your connection first. If a popup-based feature (Teleprompter, Print) doesn't open anything, check that pop-ups are allowed for this page. If PNG/PDF export seems to hang, give it a moment per slide — it's rendering each one individually and that takes longer with more slides or bigger images.
↔ Drag edges to resize — covers every menu, tool window, and the history system
